CW Dance Company

Competition Team - 2024/2025

Dancer/Parent Information/Contract

Please select the dancer's competition team(s).

Welcome to CW Dance Company 2024/2025 Season competition team!

The following procedures are set forth to shape our teams’ member’s to be the strongest, most respectful, talented dancers and young people possible.

Our philosophies are centered around teamwork, and the support and love that comes from being part of something bigger than oneself. Our competitive dance teams are composed of CWDC most dedicated and talented dancers.

Members of our competitive dance team, attend dance competitions and are looked up to as stars throughout our studio, and our community.  We strive to do this in a positive structured environment; therefore, we must set forth the following guidelines.

Please take the time to read over this document carefully. Competitive dance is a commitment that involves a tremendous amount of time and dedication.

Please understand that there are NO EXCEPTIONS to the guidelines below. If you feel that you cannot make the following commitments, you may want to reconsider becoming a member. Please be sure your dancer reads and understands the policies themselves.

REQUIREMENTS

1.CLASSES - Dancers are required to take a technique class, along with their competition class. Members of the mini and Littles teams are also required to take a combo class in addition to their required classes. More classes are available but not required.

2. FULL-YEAR COMMITMENT- Comp team members are committed to a full dance season when they sign on to be a competition team member. Quitting mid-year is detrimental to everyone on the team, so please consider this carefully before committing to the program. A tentative schedule of events will be included. Our year begins September 3, 2024 and ends after Recital.

3. ATTENDANCE - The most important issue for team members is attendance. We understand that things do happen– a dancer gets sick/hurt, there is a family emergency, etc. but a family emergency is not a birthday party, an outing to the zoo, or another family member’s sporting or other event. If you are not at weekly practice, the whole team suffers. If you miss a practice, you are not improving your skills, and you will fall behind the other dancers on the team. If you miss a team practice, you are not learning the routine. Partnering, formations, synchronization, and all other components of the routine can only be properly rehearsed with all dancers in the piece. If you are missing from a performance or a competition, the whole dance has to be restaged.

Practice times are also usually established at the beginning of the season. Sometimes this type of involvement can be accommodated. However, if they will consistently create absences for team commitments, the instructors may require a decision regarding a choice between CW Dance Company Competition team and other programs. If you are involved with other school or sports programs, please discuss with Corrie before signing and returning your team contract to determine if your other commitments will conflict with our competition program. The dancer or the parent must call/email/text to notify the instructor of an absence prior to the missed competition team class. This is a courtesy to the instructor so they may plan accordingly.

  • Dancers are allowed to miss a team practice for the following: illness, school, religious holiday/event, family, and injury. Any other reason for missing class is unacceptable.

  • For planned family events/school trips, seven (7) days notice is expected

  • For illness/emergencies, two (2) hours notice should be given.

  • Excessive absences may require a 1/2 hour private class at a cost of $30 to be scheduled for the dancer. Unexcused absences of 4 or more classes may cause the dancer to be excused from the team, refunds will not be given.

  • Note: School (academics) comes first! We understand that things come up that may occasionally conflict. Competition Team emails are sent to you throughout the during the year as well as notices posted on the bulletin board and on the CWDC Parent Facebook group. If you receive a performance calendar with a practice/performance date where you have already scheduled something important (vacations, school academic activities), let us know IMMEDIATELY (by the next day) and we can work with you. If we do not hear from you, it is assumed that you will be there.

4. TARDINESS.  Please be 5-10 minutes early to each class. It is necessary for dancers to participate in warm-up prior to and at the beginning of every class to prevent injury. Dancers more than fifteen (15) minutes late (without a prior excuse from the instructor) may be asked to make up the missed time in a private lesson at the expense of the student

5. FINANCIAL COMMITTMENT - By paying your monthly tuition, you are enlisted into a membership, meaning if you fail to bring your child to any practices or events held that month or should any practices be cancelled, we are NOT entitled to give out any refunds or credit to your account. Each active student will be enrolled in one competition team, dancers may have opportunities to be invited into a second or third team based on the sole discretion of the instructor (additional fees will apply). Dancers may also have opportunities to do solos, duets and/or trios at any upcoming competition, this is an option and a privilege given to the student by a instructor, and based on the agreed practice time set aside for your dancer additional fees may be required. All solos, duets or trios must be approved by Corrie before plans are made.

  • Costumes: A costume will be required for each routine. We will try (where possible) to make “simplified” costumes or to combine costumes for multiple dances. We will strive to maintain reasonable costume costs. Competition Team members are required to have matching shoe styles, so you may have to purchase additional shoes.

  • Competition Fees: These vary organization to organization. As soon as we have the rates charged, we will let you know. However, once registered and paid, they are non-refundable. (If dancer is absent for any reason and is not able to participate in the competition, her fees cannot be refunded by our studio because the Competition does not refund the fees to us.)

  • Fundraising: CW Dance Company will offer fundraisers to earn money toward competition fees and/or costumes. Only those who participate in the fundraisers will reap the benefits. Any amount earned will go directly to your dancer's Dance Studio Pro account.

6. COSTUMES AND MAKE-UP.  All dancers are required to wear dance makeup for performances. This makeup is not to be worn outside of performance venues. You will be supplied with a list of required makeup. All dancers will be required to purchase one costume per routine.

Costume pieces cannot be replaced if lost. Only entire costumes can be ordered in the event of a misplaced item. Please be aware that the ship date for costumes can be approximately 8-12 weeks depending on where it’s ordered from after the order date. Dancers must have all costume pieces, shoes, makeup, hair accessories, and hairstyle to perform. If a dancer is missing any of the prior mentioned items, he or she will not perform in that routine.

Costuming is a part of the group score and deductions will be made if dancers perform with obvious missing pieces or ill-fitting costumes. This includes runs/holes in tights. Deductions are also taken for messy hair or hairstyles that fall out of place.

7. COMPETITION BEHAVIOR: Dancers must be respectful to competitors and show sportsmanship. Do not speak with the judges unless prompted to do so. Dancers must be courteous and respectful to teammates. Ill behavior towards team members will not be tolerated. Cyber bullying and bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. Disrespect to coaches and parents will not be tolerated.

8. CLASS ATTIRE: Dancers must come to class in proper dance attire at all times. Class attire could include but not limited to bodysuits, tights, shorts, tight leggings, skirts, sports bras and loose but not oversized t-shirts. Jeans and super tight or restrictive clothing should not be worn. Proper shoes are also needed for each class. Making sure that the correct shoes are being worn for the style of the class. Corrie can order shoes to meet your class needs. You can see all options on the website store.

9. EMAIL, TEXT, FACEBOOK AND OFFICE.  Our goal is to keep you informed using all of the above. We need you to do your part by checking the studio Facebook page and website since all new information will be posted in both locations. You need to be informed on a regular basis with what is happening in the studio. As we cannot contact each of your individually on a daily basis, we will e-mail notices and invoices and general FYI. Some things happen fast at the studio and we want to keep everyone informed. You are welcome to call during business hours for further clarifications once you have used all resources.

10. USE OF PHOTOGRAPHY.  It is understood that CW Dance Company reserves the right to use any photography and/or videotaping of the dancers performances for purposes of advertising, publicizing and promoting the studio. All ownership (including copyright) as well as other rights, title and interest in and to these photography/videotaping shall belong exclusively to CW Dance Company.
